BRITISH

IS
NAMED

IN THE
THEFT OF
TAY'S
ART

Over the years many kind and concerned  people have tried to help recover my 80+ peices of  art. Some have been in the gallery in the Spain and actually seen my work there in person.  I have had contact with lawyers who tell me that unless it is a probono case and I have signed receipts and contracts proving the theft,  it is boils down to British and International Art Gallery aka Dick and Liz Barton's word against mine.  Unfortunatly for most artists galleries don't honour contracts and usually work on a word of mouth relationship. A Crazy Risk I know  but even if a contract had been signed I  would have to have paid out thousands of Euros proving that my art had been stolen. A cost I wouldn't be able to recover.

I recieved quite a few e-mails but one person in particular that I was in contact with suggests that I am not the only victim of these people.  I have kept the identity of the writer anonymous.

where do i start i was in a relationship with Dick for 4 and a half years, and we have a 2 and a half year old baby boy called ********, The man is crazy as you well know, and he and Liz are divorced,! but she is back in the gallery since i have left, i didnt know about you until i overheard a conversation between the two of them and i did some homework of my own...I personally sold at least 6-8 pieces of your work and there must be at least 50 pieces still in the gallery , which he has moved upstairs so its out the way... but i can asssure you its there, i personally dont have any contact with him as im trying to get maintenence from him, he chucked us out of the apartment we shared together and took my car from me and not paid a penny to his child... and him and Liz are back working in the gallery together, i would never let him know im intouch with you as i hate him for what he has done to me, I spoke with my lawyer this morning who tells me that you can denounce him from here,as long as you didnt give him permission to take the Art to Spain you have a very strong case, as its robbery, and to which if he is found guilty is looking at a prison sentence.. you have my numbers so we can talk on the phone ..Take care ********

Renovations on Tay's working studio which is located near Hermanus, are now completed. After two years of planning, design and construction the 150 square meter space is now being fully utilized.

She is currently working on  3 exhibitions  for release later this year  "The current studio was holding back my creativity, says Tay,  it was too small a space for the amount and size of work I have committed myself to over the years."

TAY DALL
ATARAXIA ART EXHIBITS 2010-2011

CreativeEngaging Unique

Kevin Grant founded Ataraxia Wine Estate in 2005 in the beautiful foothills of the Hemel-en-Aarde behind the coastal village of Hermanus. After successive award winning vintages, Kevin has worked tirelessly to establish the Hemel-en-Aarde as the forefront of quality Chardonnay and Pinot Noir production in South Africa. It is on this 47 hectare piece of fertile land, that Kevin pours his energy into expressing this newly acquired site's sense of place through three handcrafted wines under his new label, "Ataraxia" - Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Serenity, a red blend.

Tay Dall, South Africa’s premiere abstract artist, has created a unique collection of work called ‘Atoms in Flight’, now exhibiting in the newly opened Ataraxia Wine Lounge at the Skyfields Farm.

This work was born out of Tay’s creative enamel experimentation period. “The creation and arrangement of the universe is a regular stopover in my thoughts”, says Tay, “The closer one looks at the arrangement of life and matter, the more important the elements become and the less complicated they seem to be. It is the function of simplistic beauty that suggests how the viewer interprets this work; that life as in art only becomes complicated when we think too hard upon it. My enamel collection reinforces the idea that there is more in less when one concentrates on a micro level of beauty.

The Ataraxia Wine Lounge is open Tues-Fri 9:30 to 4 and Sat-Sun 10:30 to 3:30 for more information contact 028-212-2007 The Tay Modern • www.taydall.com • tayd@hermanus.co.za • 072-116-9029

SOTHEBYS
AUCTION

 FIND RECORD PRICES FOR ORIGINAL
TAY DALL ARTWORKS

This year's recent two auctions held by Sotheby's,  local top artist's and old masters including Tay Dall, Norman Catherine, Tinus de Jongh and Irma Stern to name a few, have been highlighted as secure investments by international buyers.

The past two auctions have seen three of Tay's works commanding record prices marking an unprecedented escalation in value of premiere South Africa art works to international art collectors.

As Sotheby's leads the way to ensuring that top prices for top artists such as Tay Dall are met by anxious investors, the success of  international auction house Bonhams 1st South African Art sale has forced the UK  auction  giant to host it's  2nd South African Art sale to meet buyer's demand.

BONHAMS
has chosen Tay's art for
The South African Sale
in

October 2010
New Bond Street
Tay met with organization officials in Cape Town recently and has been invited to consign some of her work in the next South African art sale planned for October 2010 in London.

Bonhams' South African art sales have proved that the market for the best quality South African Art is now firmly established in London, the centre of the global art trade.

Giles Peppiatt, Director of South African Art at Bonhams commented after the last sale in March: “Once again we have been delighted by the response from buyers. You would not have known in the saleroom today that we are cautiously emerging from the worst recession in 80 years. The mood was buoyant, the bidding brisk and the prices excellent. After five years of selling South African art I feel that this is not a blip or a fashion but the start of a long march to real international recognition and appreciation of this vibrant art from the tip of Africa.”

POP STAR
PINK
MEETS TAY

A meeting over cocktails between Tay and the pop star Pink was held at the Mount Nelson Hotel in Cape Town recently at the end of her world tour.  Pink who is an admirer of Tay's art, took home two large paintings for her home in California and made plans to return to paint in Tay's studio when she returns to South Africa in the near future.

British and International Art Gallery located in Marbella Spain steals 84 peices of Tay's art.
After 4 years of non-communication from the gallery, "This is the only explanation I have  left", say's Tay who faces the sad reality that 2 years of her art production are gone.  "A whole period of my career has been taken from me and there is nothing I can do about it."

The gallery, owned by Liz and Richard Barton set up shop in London in 2004 taking on various artists including Tay's work. By the middle of 2005 they had closed the doors to their London Gallery and without Tay knowing it, had taken all of her art to one of Spain's notorious British holiday resorts, The Golden Mile in Marbella, Malaga.

Over the course of the next few years Tay and her husband repeatedly attemped to recover her work from British and International Fine Art and the purported
£10, 000.00 the couple owes her in art sales, but to no avail. "When they, [Richard and Liz] see a South African phone number, they just don't pick up the phone any more.", says a frustrated Ben Chowney.

At first the gallery assured Tay that they would stay in contact with her and that if she was unhappy with the arrangement she could have her work back at any time.  After 3 years, It is obvious, this is not their plan as the couple have stopped returning phone calls, faxes and e-mails.

Tay has confirmed that the gallery is open for business and continues to display her art because a couple that know Tay's work went on holiday in Marbella and happened to see her art in the gallery window.

"What else can I do?, asks Tay, I have tried to find a lawyer who would help me, but because I am in South Africa and the gallery is in Spain, there is not much a lawyer can do from here and they [Liz and Dick] know it!'
