ARTIST'S NOTES ON SPARK! big bang, stars, molten rock, heart beat, eyes, reflections, lightning, electricity, steel, glass, diamonds, love, war, 1’s and 0’s, city lights, fire flies, ideas, thoughts….my ideas and thoughts live through my art. An idea, an imaginative moment in time, a hand movement, a random dip of the brush into a palette of paint and that is the spark; the beginnings and the points in-between the beginnings. It’s a far-out conjecture of how things have come to be and where they may go, which leaves me a lot of mental room to question the very nature of our reality and of the universe as a whole….my best thinking is done through painting. the spark! series is a body of work that culminates a style of fluid vibrant motion, the melding of tone and colour, a dissipation of form and light, the capturing of energy, an energy of beginnings where a momentary flash is about to ignite and go bang! It is an interpretation of a moment in the making of time itself….

ARTIST'S NOTES ON PAPERVINES I live in a place with a huge diversity of landscapes; sea, mountains, grasslands, desert, scrubland, jungle, sand and forests. Almost every environment you can imagine. Without travelling too far there are loads of different flora and an incredible density of animal species all within my reach. This amazing place still gives a feeling of wildness and a oneness to how the earth was, a long time ago. This is the place I wake up to every day so, for me, inspiration often comes from my direct experiences within my immediate environment. The Papervine works are a direct reflection of these various environments that I am exposed to and this emotionally embodies itself in the context of the artwork in the series. These works have a particular and direct emphasis on nature, on Africa, on wildness. The untamed linearity and texture, highlights the delicacy of nature, almost as a reminiscence of fragile fossils, as if they’ve been around forever and ironically will crumble into dust with a light touch. These works reflect my impression of the oldness of the land within my experiences. The sandy textures of the African earth, the linear delicate lines of plants and fossils giving an artistic feeling of timelessness. A reminder to myself not to forget the past and where we originated from.
