When I think back as a child, Nelson Mandela, was probably the least likely person to be my super hero and yet here was this frail humble African man singlehandedly conquering the world’s imagination with his story of political oppression  and the story of his countrymen’s’ fight for humanitarian freedom.  Unbelievably, Nelson Mandela was released from his 27 years of incarceration without bitterness, without reprehensible action of violence and without the reprisals of an eye for an eye justice.  With pride in his heart and humility in his attitude towards his captors, Nelson Mandela was able to convince the world and his followers that hope and forgiveness was the way forward for South Africa.  His philosophy bespoke his dream that the beauty of South Africa lies in the hearts of its people, all of its people, including me, and that peace was the road to freedom. I am much indebted to be a part of Nelson’s life and will forever live in South Africa knowing that he sacrificed his life for mine so that I can live and express myself as a free thinking person and as an artist.  Madiba my super hero!
